Business Interruption Insurance is one of the most misunderstood policies on the market today yet it is one of the most critical coverages to get right. We consistently hear from our broker partners that BI is one of the most difficult coverages to sell, explain and to get right. Client operations can be complex and BI is a complicated form of coverage. Getting it right requires time, attention and expertise. The standard industry approach is to ask the client to complete a BI worksheet or to provide alternative calculations. The process is flawed and doesn’t provide the broker the opportunity to be that trusted advisor and to understand the client’s business. The process requires thoughtful operational and financial analysis. It consumes a significant amount of time on the part of the client and the broker!
